Sol James
Saturday, September 14, 2019

Manitoba’s Sol James will be bringing her full band and soulful roots & blues to the Sundre Arts Centre on Saturday, September 14th!
Winnipeg-based Sol James is a force to be reckoned with and has a voice to match! She has a unique take on roots and blues with a soulful flair, her music is joyful and honest - which leaves audiences smiling, dancing, and celebrating the great stuff of life. Sol’s stage presence calls out to even the meekest of souls, breaking down walls and bringing the light in. She does this with a dependable dose of hilarity; you can hear a Sol James audience laughing a mile away.
Sol’s voice, musicality and creative vision is in demand in the Winnipeg scene. She is the lead singer of both The Retro Rhythm Review and The Solutions, two bands known for slaying soul and funk hits across Winnipeg. She has toured Western Canada and opened for acts such as Suzie Vinnick, Monkey Junk, The Brothers Landreth, Red Moon Road, Jack Semple, Sweet Alibi and Anne Vriend. She has also added her voice to recording projects with the likes of Watermelon Slim, The Weber Brothers, Billy Joe Green Band, The New Customs, Logan McKillop, Elsie Morden, The Small Glories and Red Moon Road. She has also performed at the Arts Centre as part of our 2013-14 Music Series.
Sol’s relatability, training, and demeanor make her an excellent teacher. A graduate of the University of Manitoba Jazz Program, she can be found teaching vocal and jazz lessons at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Art - and at University of Manitoba Jazz Camp. She can also be found sharing art, expression and joy in hospital environments as a performer with Artists in Health Care.
